July 4th Bridge Christening - one of the few times we have been able to get just about everyone together - looks like only Kristen is missing.
Another shot from the July 4th Bridge Christening - We were missing Kristen, but everyone else was able to get together. Hopefully we can do this more frequently in the coming years... at least getting together, that bridge took a lot out of Dan and I.
Brian testing out the strength of the bridge for the first time. Keep in mind there are no down supports underneath the bridge span.
SUCCESS, Serenity held up to its first strength test. Looks like Dan and Brian's design was perfect.
Of course it doesn't matter if you can cross it the first time, but can't make it back.... doesn't look like any issues coming back either
With the lawnmower test out of the way, it was time to step up the challenge. Note, Serenity was actually designed for this specific purpose - getting my ATV to the backside of our lot.
Brian was a little worried at the start of the test, but the heart can relax now, Serenity held. This was especially stressful since the family was gathering in a a couple of weeks to christen her.
Serenity is still standing, all that hard work everyone put into making her has paid off. Needless to say, Brian is extremely pleased with the results.
Bridge Christening July 2010 - Brian at the official ribbon (okay, black duct tape seemed more fitting) cutting.
Bridge Christening July 2010 - Brian pointing out to Dan a potential spot to carry out the christening. Just noticed we both got the blue shirt, tan short email that day.
Bridge Christening July 2010 - Dan prepares to give the bridge her official christening. As a last second thought, I slipped my safety glasses on Dan not knowing what to expect when the bottle broke. This turned out to be a good thing based on another picture in this gallery.
Bridge Christening July 2010 - Dan officially christens Serenity, the bridge we built (by hand) over a stream in my back lot. 46' across with no center supports!
Bridge Christening July 2010 - Dan takes a look at what was left of the bottle after hitting it on the bridge support. Good thing he had those safety glasses on because that bottle shattered into a thousand pieces.
